Course Conditions

July Course Update

It’s July 12th and we finally broke our 16 day’s without rain streak.  It’s supposed to be the rainy season, but it’s brutal to manage the drought with 90 degree temperatures and windy conditions.  Overall, the staff and irrigation system kept course in good condition!

Greens will be aerified Monday July 24th with 1/2 inch tines and should recover in about 2 weeks.  The week of the 17th, we will quadruple verdict and lower heights .100 inch to help “groom” the greens prior to aerification.  2 weeks ago,  I raised greens to .115 from .100 because we were starting to thin and stressed from weekly double verticuttings and double cuttings.  They were looking very good, so today I asked Dallas to lower to . 110.

Fairways and Tees were aerified on Monday and Tuesday this week.  This will help water and air get into the root zone.  We will fertilized with our bio-solid fertilizer 6-4-0 on friday.  Overall fairways are in good condition.

Roughs are at 1.5 inches from 1 inch this spring.  Our biggest challenges are grassy weeds and mole cricket damage.  We are spot treating these areas on a weekly basis.

Projects:

Bunker project completed:

#1 greensides, #17 greensides, #15 greensides, #13 green side bunkers

We have started on 16 green side bunkers this week and will finish next week.

Fence installed at #18 green and rightside #11.

Turf renovation at pg parking lot was started this week.  We are using the sod on hole 10 left of the tees.  This area will be our new croquette lawn.
